Sunday Shopping Spree

I don't want to endorse one store over another, but Ali and I had a ball at JoAnn Fabrics today! It had blanket kits of all sizes for 50% off and we loaded up! They also had adorable fleece prints for $4.99/yard and since we were lacking in 'boy' prints, we piled up those as well.
We received five more finished blankets from Gloria Dei Church as well as some fleece to make another couple of blankets.
Tomorrow morning KDLT cameras will be at IPC to check how many blankets we have completed and to help us spread the word about the need for more donations. Only five more days until the BIG day!

Wow! What a week!

The past week has been absolutely amazing! The support we continue to see for Project Warm-Up just confirms what a wonderful community we live in.
In Sioux Falls there are six different Kiwanis group and as of Thursday of this week, all six of them contributed either financially or by service!
Beth Slowey, a Lincoln HS FACS (family and consumer science) teacher emailed this week to ask if I could pick up the blankets that her classes were able to raise funds to buy and then create. I was totally shocked to get to LHS to find out this one teacher and her students were donating 48 blankets!! Check out the picture of principal Val Fox waving from behind the mound of blankets on her desk. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to send that photo to the administrators at Washington and Roosevelt high schools to challenge their staffs in a little blanket collecting of their own. I can't wait to see what results that will bring.
We decided to start filling the foyer of IPC with completed blankets and keep a sign with a running total. At the end of work yesterday we had 119, but last night I spent a couple hours with some fantastic kids and moms from Holy Cross Lutheran Church and they were able to add another 12 blankets to the pile. The stack at IPC now has 131!! I am almost giddy with the possibility of hitting 1000 blankets this year.
We need to,  the count of students who are homeless reached 658. There are just so many in need.
Thanks to all who are contributing to this cause that will warm not only the hearts, but the bodies of so many children this winter.

We are rolling!

Yesterday we reached a total of 650 school aged children iin Sioux Falls who are classified as homeless.  Heart-wrenching!

But...I, also got a phone call from an angel from the Baltic School District. They have decided that their entire school would be making a total of 50 blankets for Project Warm-Up. She asked if I could come to a school assembly on Dec 18 to pick them up! I am SO excited. Once again, people truly amaze me with their generous hearts!

I have been hearing from girl scout troops, youth groups, and school PTAs- all wanting to get involved with the project. This is so exciting! If we all rally together we just might meet our goal of 1000 blankets this year!

Thank You, EdLib Toastmasters!

Last night 9 members of the EdLib Toastmasters of Sioux Falls gathered together to cut and tie 7 fleece blankets for Project Warm-Up. It was such a fun time cutting, tying, laughing, and visiting...all in the name of service to others.

People Never Cease to Amaze Me!

I am continually pleasantly surprised by the wonderfully generous souls of people around me. There are so many folks who repeatedly put others before them at seemingly all times. How truly blessed their spirits are.
